  • When is the best time to visit Meghalaya?
    Meghalaya can be visited throughout the year but each season has its own must see beauty. Summer: April to June: 15-25 °C - Pleasantly warm. Summer is the peak season for toursits due to the agreeable weather - vibrant festivals are held during this season such as the 3-day Shad Suk Mynsiem organized during April. Cool breezes and sunny afternoons make for a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The skies during this season are at their most vibrant - adorning themselves in a variety of colours. Pleasant weather makes it the best time to engage in adventure activities. Be wary of the crowds durning this season. Monsoon: July to September: 24-33°C - Moderate to heavy rainfall. If you love the rains, this is the best time to visit - seeing Sohra and its rain drenched hills through the fog with rays of sunshine peeking through is an experience few tourists get to enjoy as it is often advised against to come during this time. Cherrapunjee and Mawsynram are after all, the wettest cities in the world. But if you're a nature lover and desire for some rejuvination from the rains or crave an amazing shot of the misty meadows for the 'gram - this is the perfect time to visit - side note - hotel rates drop during this season. Autumn: October - November: 17°C and 25°C - Temperatures during this season tend to dip with winter just around the corner. But this is the perfect time for the Cherry Blossoms to bloom - the city of Shillong is in full bloom with them dotted in pink and hosts the annual Cherry Blossom festival with local food, wines, musical acts that also include international artists. Remember to pack some sweaters! Winter: December - February: 3 – 16°C - The monsoon rains have receded completely and the winter sun brings out blue waters and a varied greenery. This season marks Christmas and Yew Year festivities which are important festivals in Meghalaya. The Strawberry festival also takes place during this time. While this season is the coldest, having your adventures during the days are very pleasant and you can relax in front of a bonfire with some tea or wine during the evenings. Remember to pack jackets and shawls!
  • How do I get to Meghalaya?
    By Air: There are two airports that cater to visitors and residents - Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati caters to the majority of travellers - a two-and-a-half-hour drive to Shillong. While Shillong Airport in Umroi caters to some airlines only - a 50-minute drive to Shillong. By Rail: The nearest railway station is at Paltan Bazar, Guwahati. Shared jeeps and cabs are available just outside the station or arrange for a pick up from us. By Road: The state is connected to Guwahati by NH40 which is a well-maintained highway and easy to navigate. If you are planning to come here from Guwahati, you’ll have to begin in Guwahati’s Bara Bazaar from where you will reach NH37. Following this, you will come across Kamrup District and then NH40. Another 65kms from here, you will enter Meghalaya through Nongpoh. The drive to Meghalaya is stunning and most enjoyable and if you like the idea of going on an adventurous road trip, this is certainly the best way to reach the state. 
  • Will I be able to eat vegetarian meals?
    Of course! Although we North Easterns are known for our love of meat and their practice of not wasting any part of the animal - there are many vegetarians residing in the state and locals and tourists are accommodated - restaurants all cater to the vegetarian diet. Just a side note - pure vegetarian places might be hard to find. As for places outside of Shillong, our hosts have been lovingly and carefully preparing food for all types of palettes. So not to worry - you will be able to eat meals according to your preferences.
  • Will I get good data reception?
    With the city hosting high-speed fibre-optic internet and the rest of the state receiving good 4G coverage, you will be able to stream your favourite shows - if that truly adds to your experience. However, the coverage in some rural locations fluctuates.
  • What is included in the rate of the ready made tours?
    The rate includes taxi fare, driver and POL as per the itinerary provided Does not include the fare for guides, entry fees, accommodation and Activities For any other services & activities arrangements will be made as per the request and needs of our guests at extra cost.
  • What are travel groups?
    Groups are different from your family trip or trip with friends and familiar people. It involves traveling with likeminded people who have similar travelling interest with you and from different age group who may end up becoming your friends for lifetime.
  • Where will my Journey with TRIS travels start?
    For Travel groups: Your journey with TRIS travels will start from Guwahati airport as per the itinerary. If you arrive solo at different timings, your trip to Shillong will be adjusted with other solo partners at similar timings. For Ready-made / Pre-Packaged tours: It will depend on the requirement of the guest or travelers and as requested before finalization of the itinerary which is specifically designed for them.
  • What do you mean by Women travel group by TRIS travels?
    Women travel group is a ladies-only travelling group in which we arranges safe and secure trips in North East for women & girls travelling solo.
  • Prior to entering Meghalaya
    All travellers who wish to visit the State of Meghalaya, will need to mandatorily register on the Meghalaya Tourism App and generate an E-Invite for the proposed itinerary. The Meghalaya Tourism App is available on both the GOOGLE PLAY STORE and the APPLE STORE. The E-Invite can be generated on this WEBSITE. Additionally, services of Registered Tour Operators, LISTED HERE and on the Meghalaya Tourism App, can also be used to obtain an E-Invite. A valid Photo ID card needs to be uploaded on the Meghalaya Tourism App including that of other members who are traveling in the group. Members travelling together can register and generate one E-Invite. If the traveller is staying as a guest of any family or friend in Meghalaya, then the traveller shall declare the full address and contact details of the family or friend and the complete itinerary for the E-Invite to be generated. Once the above is completed, the travellers will receive an E-Invite that should be presented at the entry checkpoints along with a COVID negative certificate.   • General Protocols
    Tourists who are fully vaccinated will be allowed entry into the State. Tourists who are vaccinated with a single dose and minors in the age group between 11-18 years who are accompanying adult tourists will have to produce negative RT-PCR/TruNat/CBNAAT report which will be valid only if they have tested within 72 hours prior to their arrival at the entry point. Given the prevailing COVID-19 situation, it is advised that tourists even though fully vaccinated but having symptoms should avoid travelling to the State. Such symptomatic individuals, even though fully vaccinated, will be tested at the entry point. Tourists should register on the Meghalaya portal or app and generate an e-invite.
  • Protocols for Tourist Spots, Restaurants, Cafes and Bars
    Tourists (domestic, international and local) can access the tourist spots, restaurants, cafes and bars only if they are either fully vaccinated or vaccinated with a single dose. All tourist spots will be opened as per carrying capacity limits and subject to opening permission given by respective Deputy Commissioners/Sub-Divisional Officers (Civil) of the Districts/Sub-Divisions.
